Football player Carter Schlotman: Athlete of the Week

Senior Carter Schlotman played a big role in Cedar Falls 23-16 win over the 5-0 Kennedy team, recording five tackles, one pass deflection and one interception. Schlotman has been part of the team for all four years of high school.

For you, what was a highlight of your most recent competition?

My favorite highlight from our most recent game was when it was a big fourth down and we needed a stop and the quarterback threw a jump ball downfield to my side and I was able to jump up, pick it off and keep my feet in bounds.

What makes your sport special and different?

I think what makes football special is the brotherhood that comes within it and everybody working together to get better as players and as a team.

How long have you been into this sport, and what were the early days of your participation?

I’ve been playing football for nine years now, and it all started with YSF football in fourth grade.

How did/do you cope with any setbacks/losses you’ve experienced in your sport?

Earlier in the season we had lost two big games in a row and people started doubting our team, but everyone trusted the process. We didn’t give up and came back with an easy win over Muscatine and then took down the No. 5 ranked team who was previously undefeated

Do you have plans to play this sport after high school?

If given the right opportunities I could see myself playing in college.

What has been a highlight for you/your team so far this season?

One of my favorite highlights and a collective team highlight was beating Johnston in our season opener and holding them to 0 points

What do you feel you bring to the team?

Friendships and working hard with my team

What mark do you want to leave behind on this team once you graduate?

I hope that the juniors who take my place play just as good if not better than I did and enjoy every second of it because it goes by quickly.
