Tips for people struggling with mental health

Here are some tips that might help you with your mental health. Sometimes we’re struggling and don’t tell others because we think it’ll just burden them. That’s not true. Yeah, sometimes people have other things going on, but that doesn’t mean that you don’t matter to them!! Here are some tips and tricks to help you out.

  1. Talk about your feelings. I know it seems dumb, but it actually helps. Whether this is venting to someone online or a therapist or a friend. Or you can open a GoogleDoc and type it out. Whatever you use to get your feelings out is the best way for you to do it. Yeah, you can’t always lean on your friends since they’re not always there, but being self-reliant is a good thing too.
  2. Eat healthier. I know that it’s hard sometimes if you’re used to junk food, but it actually helps believe it or not. The better you eat, the better you feel. Yeah, it sounds dumb, but it’s true.
  3. Keep in touch with friends and family. If you can’t see them in-person because of the distance, just call them or send a text. Hey, maybe even send a letter. Once you do it, you feel better.
  4. Take a breaaakkkkk!!! I know that sometimes school or work makes you stressed and you feel like you can’t go anywhere since you’re so tied down. I feel that way too sometimes. What you should do is go for a walk, go somewhere new or try and take a few minutes to yourself. Take some “me time.” Yeah, you might have more to do, but it’ll be worth it. Taking a few minutes even could help a lot.
  5. Do something you’re good at. Sometimes that’s all we need to recharge after a long day or week. Stress really makes you more tired than you might think sometimes. Don’t let it get to you. Go back to one of your old hobbies that you miss. Pick it back up and get better at it then you were before. Do it when you get free time or when you feel a bit too overwhelmed or stressed.

Believe it or not, these tips actually help you more than you’d think. Follow these tips, and you should feel better soon. It definitely won’t happen overnight, but it can happen over time. Take time for yourself as well as others. When you’re struggling with mental health it’s important to stay around friends and people that positively influence you and cheer you up. Sometimes when you’re sad being around people that are the (sometimes) stupidest people that do the stupidest things (like your best friends), it can cheer you up faster than you think. Yeah, everything takes time, but if you’re around positive people and in a positive environment, things can change faster than you could think.
