Looking for a good scare this Halloween? Take your friends for a fun night out to visit a few haunted houses, and you’ll be shaking for more.

A thrill seeker who isn’t afraid of chain saws should visit the Heart of Darkness at 5111 Osage Road in the Waterloo/Evansdale area. The tickets are $10, and the lines are long, but it will prove to be worth the wait,
Weaving through rooms and hallways, you’ll never know what is going to be popping out next. This haunted house lasted about 10 to 15 minutes, and every moment is filled with suspense. The volunteers put a lot of effort into this haunted house, which really paid off.

They will be open every Friday and Saturday from 7 p.m. to midnight, and they will also be open at the same time on the Thursday night before Halloween.

“It was scary, but I loved what they did with it,” sophomore Lizzie Dobson said.

Another haunted house in the Evansdale area is the Hollow Horrid Haunted house on 3767 Lafeyette Road behind Digital Dog Pound. The tickets here are also $10. This particular house isn’t quite as scary, and it only lasts about five minutes. If you’re looking at a limited time frame, this haunted house is a good place to stop. They will be open every day through Halloween at 7p.m., and they do not currently have a set closing time.

Moving even farther away, there is also an interesting haunted house in the Cedar Rapids area that is worth the trip. Frightmare Forest is located at 4811 Preserve Lane. The tickets are $9, or $13 if you are up for a double scare. The volunteers try to make you feel like you are in a horror movie, and the haunted house has been improving every year.

They will be open Friday and Saturday from 7:30 p.m. until 11:30 p.m., and Sundays from 7:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. If you need directions to this haunted house, visit www.frightmareforest.com.

There are also options in Iowa for families and those who aren’t up for a scare. Located in Waverly is the Front Yard Fright. They will be hosting a kids day on Saturday, Oct. 25, from 3-6 p.m. The haunted house itself will be open on Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m. through Nov. 1. The haunted house isn’t quite as scary. It contains less surprises than the others but still isn’t the best for children.

There is also a Haunted Hayride at 100 Waterhawk Road. It can be visited by kids and adults alike. This ride is a form of entertainment. The tickets are only $6, and the hayride will get you in the spirit of Halloween with a few surprises along the way. This ride isn’t recommended for small children, but it’s fun for friends and families. “They have really good free hot chocolate,” sophomore Mariah Anderson said.

The haunted hayride is raising money for the Waterhawk Ski Team. They will be open on Fridays and Saturdays from dark until 11 p.m., and Sundays from dark until 9 p.m.

There are Halloween adventures for everyone, so take a chance and try something out.
