Joining the military is an option some students are considering; many students who join the military join because of family members or benefits. Other students join the military for a change in scenery, and there are some who want a life of adventure and fulfillment.
Matthew Groeneveld, a senior, said, “I decided to join the Army National Guard because of the opportunities it would give me. I’ve always wanted to do something with the military but wasn’t sure what I wanted as a job. I’ve always been interested in military aviation but didn’t want to go to college to be a pilot. I’m going in as a 15T Black Hawk Mechanic.”
Groeneveld also added,” Not only am I going to be working around BlackHawk helicopters, but I also will have the opportunity to become a crew chief and ride in them all the time as well. In addition to that, after six-seven years of being in the army, I’ll have the opportunity to become a warrant officer and then go to flight school to become an army pilot without attending college. In addition to having these jobs in the military, I will have all the civilian qualifications and licenses that go with those jobs. There are four or five seniors who have also joined the guard with me, two of which I went to middle school with. If someone was interested in joining the military they could talk to one of the many recruiters that come to the school like I did or they could get in contact with a local recruiter by visiting a local recruiting office or signing up for a meeting online. You need to be 17 years or older before joining as well.”
Many students find benefits in joining the military, and many people who join the military are younger people who want to find their purpose in life.
Others join the military for school, and with joining the military, there is college tuition with no debt.
Students join the military for benefits, whether it be for pay, college or personal interests, but joining does indeed have benefits for those considering.
