Esports kicks off fall season

The esports season kicked off this week, generating excitement among players and teams eager to compete. The squads led by esports coach Brian Unruh have plenty to express at the start of the season.

This year features multiple gaming opportunities, including returning titles such as Rocket League, Valorant, Halo Infinite, Super Smash Bros. and Apex Legends. New additions to the roster include Fortnite and Mario Kart.

Unruh said he iis confident in the players of the new games, believing they have a strong chance to reach the playoffs.

“There are a lot of players playing Fortnite. I think we have five teams, so I can imagine some players will do pretty well there, and some teams will do well too. Mario Kart is also promising, and I think they’ll do well,” Unruh said.

Despite the enthusiasm for the new season, some anxiety lingers. One member of the Rocket League team, which reached nationals last year, is no longer with the squad. The remaining players are currently searching for a replacement.

Unruh said the team should be fine if they can find a replacement.

“If they can find another member, they should be OK, but there is a little bit of uncertainty about whether they can get another player in time to compete this season,” he said.
