Halloween is all about spooky movies, songs and stories about halloween, and these students have some to share.
Freshman Sam Mullins has a number of Halloween favorites. Their favorite movie is Hubei Halloween, and their favorite song is “This Is Halloween.” Mullins also recalled a favorite story. “One time on Halloween, I was on this dark road, and this guy was following me for like streets, but then the guy came up, and it was my friend as a joke. I was scared, but it was funny.”
Freshman Levi Koskie also has several halloween favorites. Her favorite Halloween movie was Scream and favorite Halloween song is “Somebody Watching Me.” Koskie’s story was “Halloween was allegedly based on a legend about a man named Stingy Jack who repeatedly trapped the Devil and only let him go on the condition that Jack would never go to Hell. But when Jack died, he learned that Heaven did not want his soul either, so he was forced to wander the Earth as a ghost for eternity.”
Senior Michael Haynes also has several Halloween favorites. For movies, they said it was too hard to pick just one. “Some of my favorites are the Creep movies, Saw and Titane.” Their favorite Halloween song is “The Killing Moon” by Echo and the Bunnymen. Haynes’ Halloween story is “I was a really nervous kid, so I have a lot of memories of being at Halloween parties or trick-or-treating and just being scared out of my mind. There was a house a couple blocks from the one I grew up in that went all-out with the animatronics, and throughout the entire month of October I would avoid it like the plague. When I was 13, I watched Evil Dead II for the first time, and I think that was a turning point for me. I discovered that you can feel scared in a good way because you’ve got total control over it. I’m kind of a horror fiend now, and I look forward to watching some good scary movies this month.” Freshman Kate Peters said her favorite Halloween movie is Hocus Pocus. She said her favorite Halloween song is “Ghostbusters.” She said she didn’t have a story to share.
History teacher Dan Reid also has several halloween favorites. His favorite Halloween movie is “Hocus Pocus” and favorite Halloween song is “This is Halloween.” A story he shared was “When I first moved here from South Carolina, the first Halloween it snowed, which was crazy to me because I was from the South where it rarely snowed.”
I wanted to share something about my Halloween experiences too. My name is Gabby Pepperling. My favorite movies are Beetlejuice and Chunky. My favorite song for Halloween is “I Put a Spell on You.” Finally, a story for Halloween is “When I was younger I was so scared of Chucky, but now that I have grown up a little I am finally getting over that fear. Same thing with a lot of movies for Halloween. The second thing is I used to not want to watch Beetlejuice. I said it was too scary, but then I watched it with my mom and now it is a long-loved movie for the Halloween movie.”
