Tiger football team finishes strong after slow start at Homecoming game

The Cedar Falls Tigers played against Iowa City Liberty at the Sept. 16 homecoming game. The first half was rough, but they came through in the second half and won 35-19. Leyton Wolf, a sophomore, said, “Pre-game I was just thinking through the plays and remembering my reads. I was also feeling a little nervous knowing that there were a bunch of people there watching.”

The Cedar Falls side of the stands were full to the point that people had to stand to give people room to watch. Even as the first two quarters went by, the score 14-0 to Iowa City Liberty, the crowd did not give up.

The first half of the game, offensively, nothing could happen, but the defense stepped up to make stops.

In the third quarter, the Tigers finally got a touchdown. The Tigers went into Wildcat Formation and had Logan Wroe at quarterback and Cade Coubat at wide receiver, and used that to find 14 points and set the score 21-7 to Cedar Falls and finishing off 35-19.

Wolf said it was a happy win for the team, but “we know we can play better. We also know that the teams we play are going to get better.”

He added that the team still has a long way to go for success, but he hopes the game tonight will tip the scales in their favor.
