Classic novel induces curiosity in reader

“Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” 1865, still proves to be a fun and confusing read.

“Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland” is a widely known and beloved children’s story written by Lewis Carroll and published way back in 1865.

Most people have at least heard of this popular story many times throughout their lifetimes. Reason for this worldwide recognition is not only for the story’s unusual and rather mystifying events and dialogue but also because of the many film adaptations since it’s making, most recognizable of all being the Disney animation “Alice In Wonderland.” Though if one would assume the book is at all like the Disney adaptations, one would be proven to be wrong. One may think the movie to be a mix and match of scenes and characters, only to see the book has much more nonsense to it than the movie could ever let on.

“‘I wonder if I shall fall right through the earth! How funny it’ll seem to come out among the people that walk with their heads downwards!”

The story begins with the main character, Alice, and her sister sitting and reading books (much similar to how the popular Disney movie begins). The plot moves quickly from there, having Alice fatefully find herself falling down the rabbit hole within the first few pages. Things just get stranger and stranger from there, or in this case “curiouser and curiouser.”

Lost in “Wonderland,” Alice must continue to follow the white rabbit, hoping to eventually find her way (If not her way then the queen’s way!) home, but through the confusing twists and turns of the land to the curious mess of characters from the famously known Mad Hatter to talking flowers, Alice finds herself to be quite lost. She must decide what path to take to make it home again from this backward world.

Throughout the story, one may find plenty of similarities to the text and the early Disney adaptation, though don’t be disappointed, the book has plenty to offer that the movie did not.

With 256 pages and some rather large text, “Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland” is a quick read that shouldn’t take more than a few hours to complete. One thing is for sure, this story is sure to brighten up the reader’s day and/or offer up some well-needed confusion and wonder that otherwise would not have been there before in the absence of such a wonderous nonsense of a book.
