Athletes clinch state-level achievements

Our View

We’d like to offer our congratulations to the men and women who competed and succeeded at this week’s Co-Ed State Track Meet at Drake University. Top athletes from acrosss the state dedicated countless hours throughout the season in hopes of competiting in the spotlight events this past weekend. Though hundreds prepared, only the elite seized the opportunity and ran with it.

A select handful of athletes from Cedar Falls competed in a slew of events, be it long distance, sprints, relays or field. Representing the school admirably, their drive and focus embodied what this school’s about. A few runners went so far as to secure state titles and bring home the hardware to keep our tradition of excellence going strong.

Senior James Harrington locked away four victories, capping off an illustrious high-school career with wins in the open 100, 200 and 400, as well as providing a solid anchor for the state champion 4 X 100 relay team consisting of seniors Harrington, Shawn Hagarty, Luke Toyosi and Mitch Dowell. This brings his state track meet total for trophies to nine.

Junior Allison Gregg secured a first-place win in the 3000, giving everyone a reason to celebrate the underclassmen’s return for her final season next spring.

We celebrate the efforts and success of all sports teams and clubs this past year, providing us with news-worthy events we can all agree on.
