Wemade introduces first AI-run boss

Wemade Studios introduces the world’s first boss that runs on NVIDIA ACE AI in their ongoing series The Legend of Mir.

In the world of gaming it’s often the bosses that help define the world a person is playing in. Whether it be Bowser from Ninendo’s Mario Bros. series, The Enderdragon from Minecraft or maybe even the numerous bosses from Eldin ring and Dark souls, it’s hard to mention these games without referring to the bosses that make them up. Wemade, a South Korean video game company, has recently announced information about their bosses for their upcoming game, The Legend of Mir 5.

The Legend of Mir is a 3-D multiplayer role playing game. In the game, players explore the world of Mir by picking one of 4 professions and then proceeding to battle different bosses alongside your fellow teammates. In these boss battles, however, is when the game begins to differ from its previous entries.

Although NVIDIA ACE AI has been used in previous games to allow NPCs (Non Player Characters) to be more “real” to the player, The Legend of Mir intends to use this AI to advance their boss battles. With Jung Soo Park, the CEO of Wemade stating that, “We have begun a new era of gaming with NVIDIA ACE-powered autonomous game characters. MIR5’s AI bosses are a milestone moment in gaming, enabling unique boss encounters with every play session.”

By using AI algorithms to read and observe players, it allows the boss fights to become more challenging, the boss learning different unpredictable movement patterns in order to challenge players making it so you can’t beat the boss the same way twice. The boss will also target players based on their profession, picking priority targets to weaken your team’s defenses as well as learning your strengths to eventually exploit them.

If this AI boss is successful, the replayability of future games using AI bosses like this could be limitless. Players when fighting these bosses won’t likely get the same experience twice, making these new bosses all the more interesting.
