Dreamworks adapts two popular children’s books into movies, giving Cedar Falls High School students nostalgia and excitement to see these books in film.
Dreamworks as of late released a trailer showing one of their next biggest projects. Sometime in 2025 they hope to release Dog Man, a movie adaptation of the famous children’s graphic novel series by Dav Pilkey. Dreamworks also earlier this year showcased the trailer for The Wild Robot, another adaptation of a popular children’s novel with the same name written by author Peter Brown.
The two books, DogMan and The Wild Robot, were both originally published in 2016 during a time when students at the high school were still in elementary school, and students said they are excited for the two films giving them great feelings of nostalgia.
“I think it’s really cool to see a story I used to read all the time in elementary school become an actual movie,” sophomore Caylee Siebrands said. “It was just a funny concept about a dog becoming a man. Also, my addiction to comics in elementary school helped also.”
Junior Reagan Easter said, “I am very excited for the Wild Robot. I remember the book being very fun and endearing to read. The art on the front cover is something I remember to this day and I can’t wait to see what they do with the style. The Wild Robot was a really sweet story and it introduced a different type of genre to me. It was like science fiction, but the robots aren’t evil. They’re just trying to survive.”
Both hope that they can see some of their favorite aspects of the books realized. Siebrands said she hoped to see one of her favorite characters again, and Easter said she hopes the dulled art used in the book is copied and used in the movie.
