Monk Kidd’s The Secret Life of Bees creates worthwhile emotional trip

If you love a beautiful story about found family and healing hearts, then The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd is a book you need to read. Set in the summer of 1964 in South Carolina, Kidd follows the story of a little girl who travels far following clues from her mother in hopes of escaping the reality she lives in. 

This book explores the power that love has on past and present relationships. The book is slow paced enough to allow you to get immersed in the story, yet so many things happen that you don’t want to put the book down. Kidd even sneaks in meaningful phrases that make you think and buzz around like bees in your head. 

This book will make you cry, but it is worth it to have lived a part of this little life for a short while. If you’re not scared of heartbreak and a lot of love, then go check out The Secret Life of Bees at your next library visit.
