Tjoa named Conference Player of the Year

The golf team continued its dominance on the course on Monday by winning the Mississippi Division Championship by 30 strokes.

Juniors Owen Sawyer, Jack Beecher and Maxwell Tjoa were named 1st team All-Conference, but that’s not the only award that Tjoa was chasing. Tjoa, along with an All-Conference deserving year, followed that up by being named the Conference’s Player of the Year.

Tjoa doesn’t want to stop there. “My goals for the rest of the year is to just keep playing my game and trying to play good,” Tjoa said.

He currently has the fourth best 18-hole average in the state with a 72.29. He ranks even higher in the state in 18-hole adjusted average with a 72.01. That’s good enough for second statewide, trailing teammate Sawyer.

Being one of the state’s top players isn’t the only thing that Tjoa enjoys about the sport of golf. “My favorite part about golf is the social aspect of the game,” he said.

Tjoa is starting to become one of the leaders of the junior-led Tigers who are heavily in contention to take home the championship trophy this year when state golf comes to Beaver Hills Country Club in Cedar Falls.
