Earth Day is globally celebrated in more than 193 countries. Earth Day is celebrated every year to create awareness about pollution and to celebrate the environment of the planet. Earth Day 2021 is the 51st anniversary! This year’s theme is “Restore Our Earth.”
In 1970, a San Francisco activist John McConnell and Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson asked Americans to join in a grass roots demonstration, dealing with serious issues of toxic drinking water, air pollution and the effects of pesticides.
President Nixon proposed the establishment of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which included laws for the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act and Endangered Species Act.
Today, Earth Day is to increase awareness of environmental problems, but it is also a popular day for many communities to gather together to clean up litter, plant trees or just enjoy the beauty of nature.
