Video goes viral for volleyball team

On media day, Aug. 20, volleyball seniors Lexie Godfrey, Emerson Green, Kirsten Graves, Jada Golden-Smith and Kacia Brown never thought they’d go viral, but by the time the Fall Sports Kick-Off took place that evening, the girls were up to 40K likes and 200K views by landing on the Tik Tok For You page. Since their newfound fame, the team has been creating videos at away games, on long road trips and during their breaks at tournaments. The team is constantly striving to perfect dance moves and make hilarious videos in hopes of making the For You page again.

Practice is over, but the Cedar Falls volleyball team is not done having fun yet. They open up the popular app “Tik Tok” on their phones and hit “record.” What happened next was incredible for them all.

“I thought it was funny when we went viral. I didn’t expect it to happen” senior Emerson Green said.

The viral video showcased many of the varsity players in a “choose your character” setting, showing off all the girls positions and some of their skills.

Senior Jada Golden-Smith said, “We had been planning that tik tok out for awhile because we wanted to do it on media day. It turned out great, and we were waiting for one of our videos to go viral, so we were happy when it was that one”

Although the app can feature inappropriate videos, the team makes sure to keep its feed school appropriate.

“Our coach doesn’t really care as long as they are appropriate. He thinks they are funny,” senior Kacia Brown said.

With 1,716 followers and 50.3k likes, the volleyball fan group is becoming bigger than anyone expected.
