Kendrick Lamar receives recognition for ‘Humble’

With success starting in 2010 with the release of his first album “Overly Dedicated”, Kendrick Lamar is no stranger to awards. Through his breakthrough album in 2012, “Good Kid, M.A.A.D City”, he has become an icon in the world of rap and hip hop. With Grammy nominations from 2014 for best rap album and album of the year for the very same album. Fast forward four years, multiple Grammy nominations and wins, and three albums later, Kendrick has blown up with a collective number of 17 nominations and 12 total Grammy wins in his career so far. Being a head producer and creator of the soundtrack on the new upcoming Marvel movie “Black Panther” as well, Kendrick Lamar has certainly made a name for himself in the music industry.

“Swimming Pools (Drank)”- Released in 2012

Lamar dropped this song along with his album “Good Kid M.A.A.D City” and was nominated for best rap performance in 2014. Providing a chill, slow, and dark vibe throughout the song as Lamar talks about drinking problems and how it has affected himself and people throughout his life. The song brings awareness to the problem of binge drinking while still being a song people will party to.

“i”- Released in 2015

This is a song a part of the album “To Pimp a Butterfly”, nominated for album of the year in 2016 and winning best rap album with the song itself being nominated for best rap performance and winning a grammy as well. The song is a upbeat song driven by a guitar solo sampled for the background promoting self love with a catchy hook with lots of stuff going on within the song.

“Humble”- Released in 2017

With the album “DAMN” winning best rap album, Lamar’s had multiple hits with many awards this year with his critically acclaimed album. The first Grammy being awarded to “HUMBLE” for best rap song, and best rap performance. And then “LOYALTY” winning best rap/sung collaboration. If you haven’t heard the song by now it can be recognized by its distinctive intro and flow throughout the whole song.
