Keep it rollin’ with rolled ice cream: Follow these steps for creating this frozen sensation at home

Rolled ice cream is aiming to be everyone’s new favorite craze. Here’s how it works.

You choose a flavor and wait for your treat to be made. If you want, you can watch the workers as they make the rolled ice cream.

It starts out as a liquid, and then they pour it on a cold, metal plate with a temperature of 2 degrees.

At a temperature like that, the ice cream begins to freeze almost immediately. The workers scoop the ice cream together and chop it up until it freezes completely. They then proceed to spread it across the plate in thin layers.

Then, the fun begins. They take one of the scraping tools, begin at one end of the ice cream and roll it up. It’s very mesmerizing to watch.

After the ice cream is all rolled up, they carefully place the rolled up pieces in the bowl. Then they add the toppings.

When first getting rolled ice cream, you would think that it would have ice crystals in it from being melted and frozen again so quickly. Surprisingly, it’s extremely creamy.

It’s truly a magical thing to experience.

Rolled ice cream is both strange and tasty. Sadly there are no rolled ice cream shops around Cedar Falls, Iowa. But luckily, there is a way to make rolled ice cream for yourself at home.

Ingredients:

1 pint heavy cream

1 can sweetened condensed milk

Pinch of salt

Topping of choice

Steps of preparation:

Pour the heavy cream, condensed milk and salt in a bowl.

Whisk together.

Chop up any toppings you want and whisk it into the ice cream base, making sure it’s evenly distributed.

Pour the mixture into a half sheet pan. Make sure the ice cream base just barely covers the bottom.

Place pan into the freezer for at least four hours.

When the ice cream is completely frozen solid, remove from freezer.

Use a metal spatula to roll up the ice cream. (It would help to hold the spatula at a 45 degree angle when rolling.) If you have trouble rolling the ice cream, use a butter knife to gently push it into a roll.

Place the rolled pieces into a bowl.

Add toppings.

Enjoy!
