Our View: 2015-2016 has lots to celebrate

Screams of joy and thunderous applause burst from McLeod Center last Sunday as seniors marched to Pomp and Circumstance, walked on stage for their diploma, turned their tassels and threw their caps in the air: their high school days are officially over. However, for the underclassmen, silent halls and the dread of finals await. The school year is rapidly coming to a close and we can all hear summer calling, but before we sprint out the doors, let’s take a look back on all the great accomplishments we’ve had throughout the year.

CFHS sports teams have had a good year. What with various teams qualifying for state, many placing and some even winning state, and the amazing support from Tiger Nation. This year we congratulate men’s and women’s cross country; men’s swimming (individuals); women’s swimming; volleyball; men’s and women’s basketball; wrestling (individuals); men’s and women’s track; and men’s tennis (individuals) for qualifying and placing in state tournaments. We would also like to congratulate the men’s bowling team for not only qualifying, but also winning state this year. Aside from this, we would like to recognize the amazing effort and participation of all sports teams in their respective events and Tiger Nation for their supportive spirit throughout the year.

Another program that deserves recognition and praise for their achievements are the school’s STEM programs. We once again extend our congratulations to the robotics team for winning the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) robotics regional competition, for winning the prestigious Chairman’s Award and for qualifying for the World Championships. We also celebrate the accomplishments of those who competed in the Physics Competition, garnering a second place finish, and the rocket club that made it to Nationals.

Next on the school’s seemingly endless roster of achievers are those who participate in the arts programs. This includes choir, band, orchestra, speech, theater and dance. We recognize the efforts in all these categories and felicitate all the division titles given to the musical branches, making it to state in speech and dance, and all the amazing performances put on by theater alongside everyone else.

Finally, we would love to acknowledge the many charitable acts the school has participated in and facilitated. A few of which are the annual food drive, our various bake sales, donation drives, clinics, dances, our athletic events, etc. An example of a prominent athletic event are the Do Better, Be Better 5k and the Tiger Trot. Both donated funds to the recovery of the beloved Mrs. Smith and [secretary Jane] Carter. We also thank all the faculty and staff for everything they have done this year and every other year before.

It’s been an absolutely wonderful year CFHS. Sure, we’ve all had our ups and downs, but we made it! So here’s to years 2015-2016 and everything that follows.
