World Watch: Hot year, big hurricane should be calls to action

Our View:

With the biggest hurricane in history devastating Mexico and the current year on track to becoming the hottest year of all time, climate change can no longer be ignored. Whether you believe in it or not, no one can ignore the significant changes in the world today, from melting glaciers to greenhouse gases.

People say it’s too late for us to start now, but we completely disagree. It is never too late to start helping save mother earth. Everyone can help even though it is a little at a time.

Little ways we can help are the basics, the three R’s: reuse, reduce and recycle. These three can go a long way even if you don’t think about it. You can also limit the smoke in the air and burning fuels by walking, biking, carpooling or taking public transportation when going somewhere. You can also limit the amount of time you spend in the shower to save water.

Other ways to help mother earth are to go organic. Processed goods are not good to the environment and even worse to human bodies. We’re not suggesting you go full on vegan, unless you want to, but eating fresh produce and meat that doesn’t come to a can are healthy for the planet and for you. Speaking of fresh produce, gardens are also a great idea and involve composting, which recycles the nutrients of earth itself.

We believe that if we all pitch in, even a little, we can go a long way. If things keep on going the way they are, our world will change more drastically over time. We can save our home. At the very least we can try. The earth means so much to all of us and has given us so much. Don’t you think it’s time to give back?
