In an effort to assist a CFHS coach with medical expenses due to a recent injury, students and staff raised approximately $6,500 in a 5K run on Sunday, Sept. 18 at Birdsall Park.
When Williams, the women’s head cross country coach, got into a bicycle accident, his Tiger supporters decided to help with some to the expense of returning to health.
“I was in the hospital when I heard that my friends were planning on doing this and was very touched by their outpouring of support.
This running community is very close and has always been (and always will) be there for each other,” Williams said.
“Skull fracture, bleeding in the brain, temporary loss of vision, hearing and memory, fractured rib, headaches, loss of balance and a lot of skin … it is all scary, but full recovery is expected in coming weeks,” Williams said.
Not sure of exact numbers, Williams guessed around 250 runners showed up to the event.
“Unbelievable for a run in the pouring rain and mud,” Williams said.
“I hear they had a remarkable turn out and raised more money than expected,” assistant cross country coach Erica Brenden said.
