Bye Bye Oprah: CFHS mourns loss of longtime talk show

Oprah Winfrey’s highly acclaimed daytime talk show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, is coming to an end. The final season began its airing on Sept. 13, 2010, 25 years after its first episode in 1986. The Oprah Winfrey Show has been infamous for giving average, everyday people the chance to speak out and have their voices heard. Many fans are devastated, but support her decision.

Why would Winfrey end such a widely successful show?

“I love this show. This show has been my life. And I love it enough to know when it’s time to say good-bye. Twenty-five years feels right in my bones and it feels right in my spirit. It’s the perfect number — the exact right time.” Winfrey said on her show.

Many students and staff have seen the the show at least a handful of times in their life. Senior Kayla Hardy, on the other hand, watches it daily.

“I remember when I was a little girl, I would go to the hair shop with my aunt and The Oprah Winfrey Show would be on,” Hardy said, “so I’ve been watching Oprah for about 13 years.”

CFHS Oprah fans are definitely going to feel the loss of the daily show. Family and Consumer Sciences teacher Linda Schutte doesn’t know what she will watch on summer and free afternoons.

“The show ending is sad and exciting, because she is starting a new network. It will definitely be an empty spot, but I’ll look for reruns.” Schutte said.

The final season is truly the ending of an era. Fans all over the world will miss their daily dose of Oprah, but it is safe to say that we will all see much more out of Oprah Winfrey.
