Students share variety of Thanksgiving traditions

As Thanksgiving approaches, families are preparing for a long weekend filled with food, family and tradition. While the details vary from table to table, many students love to recall their memorable meals over the years.

For many people food takes center stage on Thanksgiving. Turkey remains a staple dish, but some students say their families like to add their own twists.

“My family likes to ditch the Turkey completely,” said sophomore Tyler Sanchez, “We make

tamales with pozole every year.”

Many families have traditions such as watching specific movies, making crafts or even volunteering. A common tradition is gathering to watch the annual parade.

“My family brings the table to the livingroom,” said junior Ella Anderson, “We eat our turkey while watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade.”

Not every tradition is sentimental. Some families have competitive board-game nights, watch new movies or even go for nature walks outside. For some seniors, this year’s celebration also brings a sense of nostalgia as they look toward the possible future of spending next Thanksgiving in a new city.

“I’m making this Thanksgiving count,” senior Brayden Smith said. “I want to be able to remember it.”

While every Thanksgiving looks different, each brings a sense of love and appreciation.
