The Tiger volleyball team wrapped up its regular season in impressive fashion, securing the No. 7 ranking in Class 5A with a 30–9 record.

Their postseason journey officially begins on Thursday, Oct. 22, when they hosted Waterloo United in the Region 8 semifinal match. History heavily favored the home team, and Cedar Falls has dominated this rivalry, boasting an incredible 38–0 series record against Waterloo since 2008, after sweeping the contest last night 25-13, 25-16, 25-16.

A central force behind the Tigers’ dominance this year has been sophomore standout Hadassah “Haddie” Smith, who currently holds the No. 1 ranking among all Class 5A middle hitters in Iowa. Her exceptional play on the court hasn’t gone unnoticed by teammates and fans alike.

Regarding Smith’s impact, Marissa Robertson shared high praise for the sophomore phenom. “She’s not only the No. 1-ranked middle but arguably the top player overall in her high school class in Iowa. Smith is one of those rare athletes who completely alters the momentum of the game whenever she steps on the court. It doesn’t matter where the set lands or how many defenders are set up against her—she finds a way to terminate the ball. The mix of raw skill, intense competitive drive and genuine passion she brings every night makes her electric to watch.”

As winner in last night’s contest at home, the Tigers have earned a coveted spot in the Region 8 championship match and take a massive step toward the state tournament. They face the Iowa City Liberty (25-11) on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at home.
