The black screen fades into Nintendo’s iconic red logo as the scene then cuts to Nintendo’s current console, The Nintendo Switch. As it sits against the white backdrop, the controllers snap off, the screen enlarging as its old black coating chips away. The controllers also enlarge. Turning black, they receive accents of color under their joysticks and sides. Sliding around the black backdrop the controllers eventually come back to the console screen snapping into it as Nintendo reveals their new console, the Nintendo Switch 2. Ninendo is back again with a new console and fans could not be more excited.
After all the rumors surrounding Nintendo’s new video game console, it was finally announced back in January; The Switch 2’s first direct happening on April 2nd of this year. In this article we will be covering all, and if not, most of the recent updates that Nintendo has given us for their new console and games.
To start, as previously hinted by the initial release trailer, The Nintendo Switch 2 is an updated version of The Nintendo Switch. The new console will receive a larger screen and controllers along with new features like the controllers ability to be used like a mouse. Another long anticipated feature is also coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 as revealed in its first direct. This new feature is GameChat, a feature that will allow players online to talk with each other using the console’s game mic. Although other consoles have had gaming chat rooms and gaming mics before, Nintendo hasn’t added such traits to their consoles, likely out of fear of “toxic game chats” that often plague the online gaming community. Regardless, many are excited for this feature finally being able to talk with their online friends through their favorite games.
When concerning what games that are going to be released on the console, The Nintendo Switch 2 is backward compatible with its previous incarnation. This in turn allows people who own Original Switch games to play them on the Switch 2. New games were also announced to be released on The Nintendo Switch 2. Games like Mario Kart World, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, and indie projects such as Hollow Knight Silk Song are some of these big titles. Other titles were also announced in the Nintendo Switch 2 direct, so, if you would like more information regarding all the games that were announced check out the direct on Youtube.
Along with new games, the Nintendo Switch 2 also promises Switch 2 editions of previous Switch games. Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Pokemon Legends Z-A, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, and many more games will receive updated versions of their games. These updated versions will allow for better visuals, some games will even receive new content to go along with the original game.
It’s been over eight years since Nintendo released a new console. Now, with the Switch 2 on the horizon, Nintendo fans can enjoy some new content from one of their favorite video game companies.
