New Shatter Space offers outlet for venting frustrations

Ready to shake off the stress and leave it behind in 2024? A new rage room that just opened in Cedar Falls may be your perfect opportunity to start fresh with a clean slate. The Shatter Space offers a controlled and therapeutic way to release your frustrations, with everything from bats and crowbars to glass that you can smash. Owner Tia Wilson’s vision for Shatter Space was, “to give people an outlet for therapy, release, and entertainment where frustration meets freedom. There isn’t anything like this in the area, but they are very popular. We wanted a place that would be accessible to students at UNI after finals, or just people getting off work.”

If you’ve never been to a rage room before and are considering going, co-owner Susan Woods wants you to know that there are strict safety protocols in place. Woods says, “We provide goggles, and we make sure everyone wears black heavy-duty gloves and helmets. For shoes, make sure they have soft soles, are closed-toe and have backs. No Hey Dudes or Crocs allowed.”

They offer a variety of packages and services. There are basic packages, date night destruction and soon, they will be adding gender-reveal packages. They also have options for kids, such as birthday parties with paint splatter. Wilson said, “After admission, you’re directed to an enclosed room with paint splatter designs and destruction materials waiting for you to gear up and smash your stress. On the walls, there are paintings actually drawn and painted by Tia for an extra touch. She plans to theme the paintings for holidays and seasons in the future.”

Junior Lydia Rusley-Hanesford said she plans to take a friend to Shatter Space next month. “I’ve always thought rage rooms were cool, and it will be fun to go with a friend,” she said.

Shatter Space just opened within the past week. For more information on hours or packages, check out their website ShatterSpace/rageroom.com. In 2025, let’s take some new risks to support small businesses in the community.
