Old music ringing strong on student playlists

Music has been one of the most popular forms of art, and it’s age is apparent if you take a look around any record store or online streaming platform. According to The Smithsonian Institution, music is a human trait that dates back at least 35,000 years. Despite it’s age, music whether new or old has made strides in popularity when it comes to students. These are some of the picks that students made.

Out of 31 students, 64.5% enjoy Old music over New music.

  1. Ava Adams (Old music)

I personally love metal and rock music from the early 2000s and late 90s. My all time favorite band is this alternative/nu metal-rock band called Deftones. My favorite albums by the band are the debut 1995 album “Adrenaline,” their fourth studio album from 2003 called “Deftones,” and their seventh studio album from 2012 called “Koi No Yokan.”

  1. Maya Aalderks (Old music)

At the moment I listen to a lot of Billie Joel, Elton John, Amy Macdonald and the Looking Glass. It’s a lot of acoustic, pretty chill music but still upbeat. Honorable mention for “September” by Earth, Wind and Fire.

  1. Kaitlyn Cox (Old music)

I love listening to Prince, Michael Jackson, Bon Jovi, Billy Joel, ‘NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, Madonna, Whitney Houston (basically any kind of 80-90 music)

  1. Tyler Smith (New music)

Truslow, mostly funk/poppy music, sometimes edmish. Autumn Kings, pop, Outskrts, more pop. sammy rash, sadish music but still poppy

  1. Bailey Miller (Old music)

Bands like Grateful Dead, AC/DC, Metallica, Aerosmith and Nirvana all fall under the genre of classic American rock. Not everyone’s cup of tea, but most of our parents grew up on this stuff, and I’m sure we are all familiar.

  1. Oliver Ryckman (Old music)

Weezer- Pretty normal rock band but with their blend of great instrumentals especially guitars paired with great song writing it makes a really special band. Their music spans a wide range of sounds but all are great, amazing even.
