Bowlers supporting local student at recent meet

The Jan. 6 men’s and women’s bowling meet was a special event as the team wore T-shirts that said Eli on them. Eli Flint is a bowler battling tumors in his brain and spinal cord, and half of the money from the meet was given to help with treatment.

Cedar Falls faced Cedar Rapids Jefferson in the meet, and the girls won with a total score of 2,409 against Jefferson’s score of 2,335. Sophomore Maggie Goodwin said, “The girl’s team has been going through a rough spot since last year. We lost all of our senior girls after they graduated. We have two freshmen on varsity and a few girls from JV that rose up, so it has been kind of weird getting used to the new team for both boys and girls. We did win the meet, but I think we have a long way to go if we want to get to State. Bowling is a mental game, and most of us don’t have the mental part down yet.” The boys also won against Jefferson with a total score of 3,269 against Jefferson’s total score of only 2,963.

The next meet will take place on Friday, Jan. 13, and the team will be bowling against Cedar Rapids Prairie at Lancer Lanes.
