Athlete of the Week: Jordan Hoeppner in rugby

Senior Jordan Hoeppner was also the football team’s leading tackler this past season.

For you, what was a highlight of your most recent competition?

The highlight of my last rugby tournament was that I was able to tackle people again in a sport.

What makes your sport special and different?

That it’s not a widely known sport in the U.S.

How long have you been into this sport, and what were the early days of your participation?

This is my second year doing and my first year was really different when I had only played football before.

How did/do you cope with any setbacks/losses you’ve experienced in your sport?

The biggest thing I did was practice harder on what I struggled on during the games.

Who has been particularly influential in helping your growth in this sport?

Luke Eller. He was the one who got me in the sport.

What do you do to prepare yourself before a game?

I drink a Bang and take some ibuprofen and a banana.

How do you work on improving your skills in this sport?

By practicing on a regular basis.

What’s a personal skill that you are targeting lately?

Passing with my left hand.

Do you have plans to play this sport after high school?

No.

What’s the most rewarding thing about your sport?

Meeting new people.

What has been a highlight for you/your team so far this season?

Team meal. We just started playing games.

As you see it, what are the biggest tests remaining for you/your team yet this season? The weather will be a big one but injuries and size will definitely hurt the team.
