Athlete of the Week | Kole Latusick | Hockey

For you, what was a highlight of your most recent competition?

Our most recent game was last night, and we beat Dubuque 12-2, and I had 5 points, two of which were assists, which puts me five away from the all time assist record.

What is the hardest part about hockey?

Blocking a shot in the ankle and barely being able to skate back to the bench.

What do you do to prepare yourself before a game?

I listen to music, stretch the same way, retape my stick and also eat the same meal from Jimmy Johns.

Who has been particularly influential in helping your growth in this sport?

I would say my current head coach Brian Cook as he played professional hockey and had a playstyle just like me, so he has really helped me expand my knowledge of the game and how I react in certain situations. Also, he has trusted me with big tasks since my freshman year like playing me in varsity since that year, so overall not only has my game improved with him but my own self confidence with my game has improved.

Do you have plans to play this sport after high school?

Yes, I plan to go play either junior hockey or college hockey.

What’s the most rewarding thing about your sport?

Being with the boys I’ve grown up around every day and accomplishing what we have always wanted to do.

What has been a highlight for you/your team so far this season?

I would say our biggest accomplishment is coming right back from a state championship last year and maintain first place in the league again this year even though we are on the younger side compared to last year.

As you see it, what are the biggest tests remaining for you/your team yet this season?

Our senior night game against Kansas City who is currently in second place right behind us will be our biggest test as it will basically decide who wins the regular season title.
