Spotify dominates music streaming choices

Spotify and Apple-Music are two highly known music streaming platforms among many others such as Pandora, Soundcloud and Youtube. While there are many options to listen to music given modern technology, Spotify is by far the favorite for CFHS students.

Spotify is a digital music streaming platform that allows users to listen to collections and playlists from friends, strangers, artist and other celebrities, in addition to creating their own.

Spotify is a free platform, but a premium option can be purchased for $9.99 a month with a free trial of 30 days. This plan includes ad-free listening, unlimited skips of songs, high quality streaming, shuffle plays and downloads for offline listening.

Spotify also offers a student discount offered for $4.99 per month for 12 months This plan includes normal premium benefits but with the bonus of being able to watch Hulu on the same plan only for $4.99.

Lastly, Spotify has a family premium plan for $14.99 a month. This plan keeps all the premium benefits but lets subscribers have up to five members with separate accounts on the same plan.

Apple Music, on the other hand, is a music streaming platform that has to be purchased, and does not offer a free version.

Like Spotify, Apple Music’s student plan is $4.99 per month and the individual premium plan is $9.99 per month. These both include a three month free trial, ad-free music, offline listening, original shows, concerts and Beat 1 radio.

Apple Music’s family plan is also $14.99 per month with a free three-month trial. It includes all the same features from the individual plan but allows access for up to six people on one plan and a personal account for each family member.

When compared, these two popular streaming services have many similarities from pricing to features. Despite this, the preference between the two continues to divide.

In a Hi-Line pol of 180 students, Spotify blew Apple music out the water with 72.2 percent preferring it to Apple Music’s 15.6 percent. Other music streaming platforms that were highly preferred were Pandora and Youtube.

Spotify is the most prefered music streaming platform because it is free unlike Apple Music.
