New year brings twists to Hi-Line, website

Our View

Just as in the past, the new school year has brought changes at the Tiger Hi-Line along with it. First, and most obvious, is the changing of our newspaper flag.
In past years the editorial staff has edited weekly stories through a local network that was practically only accessible from the school. This year, however, we are experimenting with Google Docs. This free program, which is run through Gmail, enables staff writers to submit stories from wherever they can get Internet and also enables the editorial staff to edit the stories from home.
This has both cut down on paper waste (stories are no longer printed, but rather edited on the computer) and increased our flexibilities with story deadlines.
Along with these advantages, readers can now send questions or comments to all staff members. The address is hiline.(insert last name of Hi-Line staff here)@gmail.com.
To cover the costs of printing this year, we have developed a new sponsorship program with three varying levels. For a single payment (ranging from $100 to $250), sponsors could receive such perks as their name in every edition of the paper and yearbook, a link to a website or coupon on our website, and their names on the wall of the school’s main entrance.
Of course, for those who want to place a traditional advertisement, we have guidelines for that as well. For more details on sponsoring, visit our website and click on the Ads link or contact Maggie Devine or Vincent Stigliani with an email.
Finally, be sure to check out our website, which is redesigned and regularly updated with podcasts and vodcasts from the broadcast journalism class as well as all of our weekly stories. We hope to invest in a shorter URL soon, but right now the link is http://www.cedar-falls.k12.ia.us/buildings/cfhs/journalism/index.html. A shorter way to get there is to just Google Cedar Falls High School and then click the link for “Stories by Student Journalists.”
As all newspapers these days, there may be more changes to come, but we will continue to strive to bring you the latest in CF news.
