Two Holmes students celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas

Thanksgiving is quickly approaching for most, but not for all. Some people already have their eyes set on the end of the year and the excitement of Christmas. Freshmen Hailey Bevins and Juliana Kunkel from Holmes Junior High shared their holiday preferences.

For Bevins, Thanksgiving is more than just a holiday — it’s a chance to spend quality time with the people she loves.

“I like to spend time and have fun with my family on Thanksgiving,” Bevins said.

Kunkel also celebrates Thanksgiving, but her Christmas traditions stand out even more.

“Every year we go to my grandparents’ house in Wisconsin,” Kunkel said.

Food brings people together during the holidays, and for many families, it’s a highlight of the season.

“My favorite Thanksgiving food is mashed potatoes,” Bevins said.

For the Kunkel family, Christmas comes with its own staple dishes.

“Mashed potatoes, pie, turkey and lots of different food each year, but these are what we always have,” Kunkel said.

Despite their different views on the seasons, both students enjoy the holidays for their own reasons.

“My favorite holiday is Christmas,” Bevins said. “I just don’t think we should forget about the meaning of Thanksgiving and the point in giving thanks.”

“I like Thanksgiving because we always have pumpkin pie first,” Kunkel said.

Their music choices also help set the tone for their holiday seasons.

“I like to listen to fall music,” Bevins said. “A day or two after Thanksgiving, I turn everything to Christmas.”

“I like listening to Christmas music right now,” Kunkel said.

For Bevins, the Christmas season officially begins shortly after Thanksgiving.

“I like to officially call it Christmas a day or two following Thanksgiving,” she said.

Kunkel said she feels similarly, even if she starts the music a bit earlier.

“For me, Christmas starts the second after Thanksgiving ends,” she said.
