Skates Up! Under new coach, Waterloo Black Hawks follow up on last year’s Clark Cup runner up season

The Waterloo Black Hawks season started back up on Sept. 17 with a loss in a 12 round shootout with the Muskegon Lumberjacks in the USHL Fall Classic.

So far the Hawks have amassed a 1-1-1 record including a win over the Des Moines Buccaneers and a loss over their arch rival the Dubuque Fighting Saints. They play their next game at home Friday, Oct. 4 against the Madison Capitals.

The team has a buzz around it as the Hawks were runners up for the Clark Cup, and expectations are sky high. Tim Harwood of the Waterloo Blackhawks said, “With the new head coach Scott Gordon, Black Hawk players have a great opportunity to develop their abilities. His credentials line up as the head coach of the Islanders and Philadelphia Flyers. With a completely clean sheet, veteran players will try and share with the new guys how challenging the road ahead is.”

Black Hawk fan senior Brendan Poots said, “I had high expectations for the Black Hawks this year. I expect them to put in more work and expect more things to happen moving forward.”

Senior Caleb Reese is also a fan with high expectations for this season. “I think we can get in another deep playoff run and hopefully win us a Cup.”
